Kenilworth Castle
This was a highly interesting project for Fixings Plus to be involved in. We were asked to propose a fixing system to install viewing balconies and stairways to the ruins of historic Kenilworth Castle. High loads were required in a substrate of 800-year-old soft sandstone.
After satisfying the design constraints of the architect and English Heritage, a Fischer FIS EM epoxy resin system was specified; ideal for the required loadings and diamond drilled holes.
M16 x 1000mm long high tensile stainless steel threaded bars were used in places, to effectively ‘tie together’ inner and outer parts of the old structure, thus strengthening areas where critical loads were needed.
Ongoing site testing was carried out by Fixings Plus for the duration of the project. This was to ensure the anchor design criteria was qualified in what was certainly a challenging substrate.
