Centre Point London

This iconic Grade II listed skyscraper stands in the centre of London’s West End.
Built in the early sixties using H–shaped precast concrete units, the units were bolted together along with the concrete floor to form the loadbearing façade of the building. Brutalist in its architecture, it is still very unique in its construction form. So much so that in its redevelopment the old façade is being fully retained.
The tower is being turned into apartments offering some of the most incredible and uninterrupted views across the capital. This is where close attention of the fixing system comes into play.
Replacing the existing with a modern window system, careful consideration has been placed on the design to achieve the high safe working loads required when fixing into the old precast units which are now over fifty years old.
MKT VMZ Injection System was selected as the optimum product. The system consists of an anchor rod with conical expansion elements and a two-part injection adhesive. This combination provides extremely high load bearing capacity even at minimum edge distance and spacing. The VMZ system combines the benefit of bonded and expansion anchors, whilst offering full ETA Technical approval into cracked concrete.
Design performance of all anchors was checked and approved in-house using the MKT Design-Software package. Site tests were undertaken by Fixings Plus to confirm the design loads of anchors and quality of the old concrete panels.
